Frances Pollitt is a designer, creative web consultant, and educator. Through Precise Modern llc, she provides design and web development for professionals, businesses, and organizations.
Until recently, Frances taught courses in web design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Queens College, City University of New York. She previously taught digital media and design courses at the Borough of Manhattan Community College and Katharine Gibbs School, where she also served as acting chair of the Digital Media Department (2008). From 2009-2014, Frances was the lead designer and web developer for the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics, a research institute housed at NYU. She previously held web design and digital photography positions at the Digital Library of the American Museum of Natural History, and was a digital studio assistant for Elyn Zimmerman.
Frances’s photographs for Kiosk have appeared in I.D. magazine and the New York Times, among others. She also collaborated as one half of the photo team, AF Project for several years. Frances earned her MFA from the School of Visual Arts and her BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She enlists the concept wabi-sabi to describe her aesthetic aspirations.
